Dub Cowboy

Dan’s DJ career started on the dance floor. It was a promise that he made on Aug 9 1995 that set him on this path and he has never strayed. Witnessing the beauty of community and the magic of dancing at a handful of Grateful Dead shows, the foundation of a life about music was formed. His promise is to channel that magic wherever he goes and share it with the world. His mission is to make the world a better place. His mission is to make you dance.

He is as versatile as a DJ can get and yet has a style that is uniquely his. As DJ Receiver, he specializes in House music and commands real vinyl records through 3 turntables and a rotary mixer. When going as Mixmaster Krushington (MXMSTR KRSHN2N) he can keep an audience on the dance floor for hours by

scratching and juggling classic club Hip Hop, R&B, and Funk like a seasoned battle DJ. He has done live sets with drum machines, synths, and samplers and been accompanied by saxophonists, drummers, guitarists, violinists, and a plethora of singers, MCs, and world class Reggae artists.  Using multiple aliases has given Dub the tools and experience to master many styles, but what is Dub?

Dub music is at the heart of Dub Cowboy’s true sound. Traditionally Dub is instrumental Reggae, a showcase of the producers skills on a mixing board and use of effects. Dub Cowboy takes this concept further by weaving multiple genres of music into a cohesive flow, making anything sound like “Dub.” Rich basslines, uplifting melodies, and a positive message are the common thread.  His sets can last for hours and may contain Reggae, Dubstep, Hip Hop, Trap, Future Bass, Funk, Soul, Afrobeat, House, Jungle, Pop and maybe even Country. This sound was born under a full moon and inspired by the majestic redwoods of Northern California. Should you be fortunate to catch one of his epic sunrise sets, prepare to leave fulfilled and inspired but still wanting more.

For Dub Cowboy, being a DJ isn’t just about those moments in the DJ booth. What makes Dub stand out is that he may have built the booth or the stage he is standing on. His DJ gear has been expertly customized and tuned in his shop. He has set up lighting cues, and the visuals sync with the music. He has stood out in front of the speakers to make sure his set sounds the best it possibly can. He has climbed the walls to hang tapestries and projectors; hauled countless speakers, road cases, and cinder blocks; and he has been the last one pushing a mop after an all-nighter.

You may know Dub because he has hosted the most popular radio show in Humboldt County since 2003. He may have handed you a flyer or said hi when you walk through the front door at one of his parties. His name has been onthousands of posters and he has opened for renowned artists like Diplo, RJD2, and the legendary Wailers. He is the guy you call when you need help with your gear, a last minute speaker rental, or a stylus delivered to your gig. He is allied with the best brands in the DJ industry such as heavyweights Rane and Serato. His champion record collection and customizations have global notoriety on social media and his mixes are played all over the world.

Mastering the use of turntables, CDJs and controllers and a music collection refined over 20 years are just a couple tools in Dub Cowboy’s belt. The Art of being a DJ extends beyond manipulating vinyl, CDs, or MP3s. It is about creating the environment in which these tools are relevant. It is about creating a world in which we can dance and celebrate in. This is the legacy that Dub Cowboy works daily to create.
