Joe-e
Joey Tippett aka DJ Joe-E has been studying and performing music for four decades. As a young man back in his home state of North Carolina, Joey studied piano and voice. After high school, Joey attended East Carolina University where he earned a BA in Philosophy. During his college years, he discovered the Grateful Dead and soon began playing electric bass and blues harmonica. It was in the context of Dead tour that Joey found his passion for electronic music, as there were Deadheads that were also deejays. His early house and techno experiences were often at all night after-parties thrown by fellow Dead fans.
In 1994, Joey moved to Humboldt County, CA where he currently resides. While on the west coast, Joey also lived in Del Norte county where he played bass in the jam-band, The Joint Chiefs, for seven years. During this time, Joey began a regular DJ residency at Auntie Mo’s in Eureka, CA along with BlancaTron and DJ Anya. Having played hundreds of shows in the NorCal area, Joey eventually earned his position as a DJ with Deep Groove Society as well as a residency at Club Triangle.
Although Joey is a well known club DJ, he still prefers the electronic underground. From minimal to tech and deep house, Joey’s sets are sonic journeys into the psychedelic world of sound.
