Simon Surreal has been moving dance floors in Northern California since 2008.  His sets can go from deep soulful house to banging Detroit Techno and always have a psychedelic element.  With a keen ear for fresh sounds, and an addiction for digging up new tracks, you can expect the music to be exciting every time.  Rather than focus on one sub genre Simon pulls tunes from many to create a journey for dancers.

Taste is something created and cultivated with time.  Simon McNeil a.k.a. Simon Surreal has been an electronic music enthusiast since 1999 when he started going to parties in Chicago and Vancouver B.C.  Falling in love with the music and scene of the underground parties he attended lead him to start collecting vinyl in 2000.  His first gigs were shortly after that playing Drum and Bass music at the University bar in the student union building.

After graduating University he attended recording engineering school in Los Angeles, he met some long term friends there who introduced him to the diverse warehouse scene.  It was attending underground parties in downtown LA that he focused all of his attention to collecting house, tech-house, and techno music.  The DJs in the L.A. underground scene were very inspiring and his sound is still based on the vibes of those parties.  Playing music that properly fits the time of day, selecting tracks based on the crowds reaction, and dancing all night long to multiple hour sets were just some valuable lessons instilled from the L.A. underground.

Simon met the members of the Deep Groove Society when he moved to Humboldt County California in 2008. Shortly there after he began playing parties at the decade long running Sundaze as well as other underground parties in the area including Fire Fall and Spring Soul.

A local Humboldt County favorite, Simon Surreal is committed to creating a vibe that uplifts and moves people.  His style can’t be placed in a simple box such as house, tech-house, or techno.  Instead, expect to hear new and underground dance music from all producers with an ear for psychedelic sound design.
